The systematic use of Sumus bags has demonstrated the creation of a more sustainable collection chain and a relevant economical advantage for municipalities, production systems, service providers and citizens.

A higher quality of the collected paper and organic waste and a higher quantity of the differentiated paper and organic waste. A lower supply of bags for the collection of organic and paper waste and a lower weight of the organic part thanks to transpiration.
The decrease of weight decreases also the costs for waste disposal in the structures for the treatment of organic waste and paper. The surface of the bags is printable and gives the chance to disseminate messages and useful instructions to citizens.Over time it decreases the quantity of bags to supply, with relevant savings throughout the chain process that can be reinvested within the collection chain, or used for other purposes.
The continuous use of Sumus bags allows the reduction or maintenance of taxes for waste disposal. The collection of pure organic waste and paper without foreign particles, the elimination of bag splitters, both for the organic and paper parts. Sumus bags for organic waste are digestible: they are fully compatible with the plants for treatment of organic waste (aerobic and anaerobic) and paper, where there is an homogeneity of materials.
There is a higher production of higher quality biogas. There is not the so-called “dragging effect”, which is typical of other packaging that needs to be opened in order to process the organic waste. Sumus bags reduce the waste coming from the treatment to a minimum, increasing the possibility to exploit the potential of the system at the maximum level.
A higher quality of the collected paper and organic waste, reduction of the collection rounds and collected quantity, better management of the vehicles, reduction of fuel consumption, reduction of emission of polluting gas, better working conditions for the operators, no transportation of dirty water, better management of the bag distribution, and optimization of the storage room management. Sumus bags do not expire, avoiding the risk of disposing pallets of deteriorated products, as can happen with bags made of other materials.
Lower usage of bags, lower weight of the waste, better use of the bags’ volume (organic waste naturally compacts itself, reducing its volume up to 50%), no bad smell, no dispersion of effluents, no rips of the bag with consequent leak of the waste. The detailed instructions allow to manage the differentiated collection of waste at home or in a company in the best possible way, solving doubts or uncertainties. The differentiation of waste becomes easier and more productive. The fact that Sumus bags are made only with recycled paper already demonstrates the virtuosity of saving material and environmental and economical resources.

Scientific studies about Sumug bags
The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa together with Università Bocconi in Milan have traced the Life Cycle Assessment of Sumus bags for the collection of organic waste in order to evaluate its environmental impact.
Sumus bags have a very reduced impact. The majority of the emissions are connected with the preliminary phases of the production, in particular the pulping and the production of paper.
Sumus bags are perfectly integrated in the waste cycle and also work as a “cleaner” of the environment, making the cycle of the organic waste (but also paper and garden waste) more efficient and sustainable.Download the report of Scuola Superiore SANT’ANNA.
In 2018 and 2019 the Politecnico di Milano has conducted and published a study about the usage of the Sumus paper bag in the cycle of collection and treatment of organic waste, in order to evaluate its influence in the process for the production of compost and biogas coming from organic digestate.
The results of the study revealed that using paper instead of bio-plastic for the production of bio-methane can increase its quantity up to 80%.Download the report of Politecnico di Milano.
Sumus bags for the collection of paper permit an excellent printability, with a high versatility and possibility to personalize communication messages in different languages. They permit virtuous behaviors, like the separation of nonpaper-made packaging from magazines or other unsuitable material. They also permit a higher weight and quality of the collected paper and a valorization in the most rewarded category in the pulping mill, avoiding the need of bag splitters and reducing the procedures for the manual separation, with clear savings in terms of labor cost.
This means that the bags are partially “self-financed” in the process itself.
The certification FSC™ guarantees to consumers that the paper is legally collected and reutilized, and forest resources are not undermined.

Try Sumus
Sumus Italia has been active since several years in the sector of collection and disposal of waste and knows well how complex it is to introduce new habits and collection systems for administrators, service providers and citizens. For this reason, it is available for controlled tests (also for free) on selected samples of users, in order to show a preview of the efficiency and validity of the system before extending it on a larger scale.
In these cases, we provide a kit which includes the bags, a perforated bin and a questionnaire to analyze the satisfaction level of the users and potential problems they face.
Sumus Italia is also a partner of the project «400 ore GPP – Formazione gratuita».
The project gives the chance to interested public entities and service providers to benefit from advanced free seminars about the contents and operative procedures included in the National Action Plan about the Green Public Procurement and the Concession Contracts (L. 50/2016).
